My son, who is dyslexic, never liked reading; it was like a punishment. So as his GCSEs began, I feared two years of battle in English especially literature. It soon became a reality which was when we turned to Alison. Words cannot express our delight and gratitude when two years later he achieved grades 6 & 7 for language and literature! Alison’s teaching skills and also the way that she builds a rapport with her students, filling them with confidence, meant everything to our son. You won’t find a better tutor to support your child during the pressures of GCSEs.

I can’t thank Alison enough for the help and support she gave our two boys. One was sitting at a grade 2 going into year 11 for GCSE, dyslexic, and completely disengaged and lacking confidence. Alison gave him the belief and confidence making the subject matter relevant to him he surprised himself and he passed with a grade; 4 more than we could’ve hoped for. My older son, again lacking confidence, needed guidance at university with assignment writing. Alison proofread and made suggestions to his work. It was a lifesaver taking away the stress and he managed to pass with a 2:1. Alison’s teaching style was relaxed and built confidence, we can’t thank her enough and would recommend her to anybody. My daughter who is now in year 10 and although her grades are predicted to be good in English and English Literature, we will definitely use Alison over the next two years to ensure she maximises her potential.

Alison came to the rescue when my daughter had had all her confidence severely knocked by her English teacher, it was a great relief to chat through the problems as it was nothing that Alison hadn’t seen before! 

Initially, Alison and my daughter went through everything with a fine tooth comb, and soon decided where the gaps were that needed work they both made a plan of action which was measurable and workable by my daughter and she could start to see clearly where she would be,  also start building on the confidence blocks one by one this was all in a very calm structured lesson.

Alison’s knowledge of teaching and English is incredible. Alison’s calm collected passionate personality gave my daughter confidence to reach her goal for her GCSEs.

We have been delighted with Alison’s GCSE English Literature sessions with our son. He and Alison got on really well, he found the sessions very useful and was always happy to participate. Alison taught my daughter for two years. Her input meant that Freya felt more confident in both English language and literature. Freya is dyslexic and had a creative mind, however, she struggled to organise her thoughts and her management of time for written work was poor. Alison taught her some great coping strategies and helped Freya devise ways of managing her timing for exam conditions. I watched her confidence grow as well as her enjoyment of the subject.
